Koh Samui has a lot to offer, and getting around the island can be very simple, as there are many types of transportation on offer.

Taxi The licensed taxi drivers have red and yellow cars so easily recognisable. However, they aren’t to keen on using their meters, so make sure you negotiate a fixed price before you start your journey. As short journey could start at 100 THB. |

Car Hire Hiring a car, jeep or 4x4, depending upon where you want to visit is a great way to get around the island. It is however important that you use a recognised company and they provide you with full First Class insurance. You personally may be safe on the road but you’ll find driving in Koh Samui will be very different to your home country. |

Songtaew A Songtaew is a pickup truck with benches and a hard cover over head where normally backpacks/cases are stowed. They travel the island on fixed routes, allowing you to hop on and off whenever you wish. As there aren’t set pick up and drop off points, flagging one down is easy and quite often you’ll hear them peep, letting you know they are there. Check the fare with the driver before you jump on! |

Motorbike Motorbikes are available to rent on Koh Samui from daily rates to long term. However, renting a motorbike is risky and many accidents occur on a daily basis. It is common practice for you to leave your passport with the motorbike shop during the rental, so a reputable dealer is highly recommended. While a high percentage don’t wear a helmet, it is required by law and Police carry out on the spot fines. |

Bicycle Some resorts across Koh Samui offer bicycles to hire to get around the resort as they can be set in expansive tropical grounds. The bicycles can also be used to visit the surrounding areas, but like motorbikes, these too can have their risks and a helmet must be warn at all times to ensure your safety. |
